The Name Game

After much (and I mean MUCH) brainstorming and discussion, we finally have a name for our baby girl! Drumroll please...

Shay Seraphina Burton

So let me share how we arrived at this decision. I first heard the name "Shay" my freshman year at Belmont University. One of the girls who was in Hail Hall with me has the name. Cool name, cool girl. So I immediately fell in love with it. Turns out, Jeff loves it too!

"Seraphina" is the feminine Hebrew form of the root word "seraphim" which are the highest order of angels (higher than archangels and cherubim). Jeff has always loved angels so we knew we wanted to try to incorporate some sort of angelic name for our daughter.

However, we know that she won't always act angelic so we needed a multi-syllabic middle name for her as just yelling "Shay!" doesn't quite cut it. So yelling "Shay Seraphina!" has a little more kick...we know, we both tried it out, LOL!

  1. YAY!
I am a big fan of this decision, I wonder why... hmmmm ;-)

I don't want to get too sappy because this is NOT about me, but rather about you, Jeff and the new little Shay. But I want to tell you that this is one of sweetest, most endearing things ever! I'm honored that you are naming your baby Shay. My mom will be really excited too! She named ME after a friend she had in college named Shay- isn't it funny that this is practically the same story all over again? :-)

I can't wait to meet little Shay! Steven and I are so very happy for you!

  2. Actually, it is a little about you! If you had been a mean girl, the name probably would've lost its appeal but since you are one of the sweetest, nicest, coolest people I know, we are so happy to go with Shay :-)

That's cool about your mom naming you after a college friend too! I was joking with Sarah that "Seraphina" has the sound of "Sarah" in it so she can sort of see her name in our baby girl too, LOL!

  6. Yeah I guess she could always go by "Sera" if she really wanted to. Who knew the random dorm room selection of your Freshman year would end up helping to name your baby! HAHA

  7. Sweet! My middle sister's nickname is Shay (her full name is pronounced Mi-shay-la, even those it's spelled Michaela)...and there's that Shay Monroe Boone girl too! Ha!!!! :)

I love both names - very good choices, Jeff and Jamie!
