Little Wonders

Yesterday marked 3 weeks since Shay was born!  Just like the pregnancy, time seems to be flying by and standing still at the same time.  I read a quote that says "The days are long but the years are short" and I totally see how that applies to raising a child.  Our sense of time would be totally hijacked if not for calendars reminding us of what day it is.

The first week we brought Shay home was extremely challenging as we had a lot of breastfeeding problems and she was losing more weight than she should have which caused for no sleep and a lot of worry.  Thankfully, when we began supplementing with formula she started gaining the weight back.  Our visit to the pediatrician toward the end of that first week found us exhausted, frusterated and worried.  While we were waiting to see the pediatrician, we saw the "Little Wonders" music video by Rob Thomas off of the "Meet the Robinsons" soundtrack playing on the big plasma screen in the waiting area.  The song struck such a chord in both of us because we both instantly related to the lyrics.  Since then, it's become our little family's song.  It describes going through tough times but appreciating all of the little wonders life has to offer.  And I don't want to miss any of those "little moments" that make life with Shay such a blessing.  She's only going to be a baby once and I want to cherish every second.

The lyrics go:

Let it go, let it roll right off your shoulder
Don't you know the hardest part is over?
Let it in, let your clarity define you
In the end we will only just remember how it feels

Our lives are made in these small hours
These little wonders, these twists and turns of fate
Time falls away but these small hours
These small hours still remain

Let it slide, let your troubles fall behind you
Let it shine until you feel it all around you
And I don't mind if it's me you need to turn to
We'll get by, it's the heart that really matters in the end

Our lives are made in these small hours
These little wonders, these twists and turns of fate
Time falls away but these small hours
These small hours still remain

All of my regret will wash away somehow
But I cannot forget the way I feel right now
In these small hours
These little wonders, these twists and turns of fate
Yeah these twists and turns of fate

Time falls away, yeah but these small hours
These small hours still remain, yeah
Ooh they still remain
These little wonders, oh these twists and turns of fate

Time falls away but these small hours
These little wonders still remain
