Work has been a special kind of crazy over the past week. Add that on top of the very disappointing news that arrived on Monday that our adoption agency has opted to hire an interim lead social worker and let the case worker go who we’ve been with since the start of our adoption process. We had grown to really like and trust her and are so sad to know that she was let go at all, let alone a couple of weeks before Christmas. We are praying that she will have great opportunities present themselves very quickly.
All this right before our last and most important home study meeting. I did get a phone call from the new social worker assigned to our case and she was very friendly and willing to answer whatever questions we had. I know it’s not her fault that this happened and that she has a big task ahead of her to pick up all of the newly assigned cases. Thankfully, she is keeping the original service meeting date and time that we have scheduled so we will meet with her next Thursday. She did assure me that we would not have to repeat any of our process so I hope this whole situation doesn’t cause too much of a delay on things.
In the meantime, we did manage to get our adoption profile books together. Once the birth parent(s) narrow down potential adoptive families from mini profiles, they view the full profile books that each adoptive couple puts together. This includes letters & pictures to the birth parent(s) giving them a glimpse of the adoptive family’s personalities, interests, reason(s) for adopting, lifestyle, parenting philosophy, home, neighborhood, etc. It’s really strange trying to sum up the whole of who you are in a few pages of a book. I hope that ours conveys enough to spark a connection.
I never did blog about my co-worker Terry who so graciously put his photography talent to work to get some updated family photos for our profile. Unlike our tragic matchy-matchy posed portrait studio picture last year, I wanted to have some relaxed, candid shots that show more of who we are. We all hit the Greenway and ended up with some great pictures. Thank you Terry! Here are some of my favorites:
